Location: Ultimo, Sydney NSW

Salary guide: $76,000 – $86,000 plus statutory superannuation

Work type: Full-time

Overview

The Australian Society of Authors (ASA) is the peak national body for Australian writers and illustrators. We offer expert advice, provide professional development opportunities, nurture meaningful connections and advocate on behalf of creators for fair contracts, robust copyright protections, and real remuneration. 

We are seeking an energetic and proactive Marketing and Communications Manager to develop and implement the ASA’s marketing and communications strategy. You’ll be responsible for improving the ASA’s brand awareness, driving member acquisition and retention, and building momentum for our advocacy initiatives. Ideally, you will have enough knowledge to hit the ground running, with the ability to be rapidly responsive and adaptable within a small team.

About the role

Reporting to, and working closely with, the CEO, this role will suit a team player who is engaged with the writing community and has their finger on the pulse of the Australian literary sector.

Key duties include:

  • Developing and implementing the ASA’s marketing and communications strategy
  • Managing all external communications to members, stakeholders, and media (including; EDMs, advocacy outreach, press releases, partnership outreach, event publicity, and social media) 
  • Writing and proofreading clear and engaging content
  • Managing and updating website copy
  • Using analytics SEO to ensure website and social media content meets our audience’s needs and effectively drives membership recruitment
  • Developing and maintaining market knowledge for the membership, including; landscape research, competitor analysis, and industry trends
  • Measuring and reporting ROI on marketing activity to CEO and Board 
  • Managing all digital advertising opportunities.

Role requirements

  • Prior Marketing Communications experience, ideally within the literary sector or an arts membership organisation
  • Exceptional copywriting and editing skills
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multitask
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Competency in making decisions autonomously with limited budgets and resources
  • Exemplary time-management skills
