Mentorships

Learn from an established professional

Ready to take your draft to the next level? Our mentorships pair you with an experienced writer, illustrator or book industry professional to help craft your work so it’s submission-ready.

A mentorship gives you the opportunity to converse with and ask questions of a mentor. This back and forth communication is particularly valuable if you are in the earlier stages of your manuscript or if you’re unsure how to proceed. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to workshop your manuscript and to receive tailored advice. A mentor’s feedback can be verbal, written, or a combination of the two; the format is decided between you and your mentor.

All published and unpublished writers and illustrators can book a mentorship – all you need is a work in progress.

If you have any questions prior to booking your mentorship please email [email protected].

“I decided to invest in a mentorship through the ASA when I couldn’t trust my family or friends (who love me too much) to tell me if any of my picture book manuscripts had legs. Kristina Schulz felt like the right fit for me and my intuition served me well. Kristina helped me to identify which manuscript had the most ‘commercial potential’ and guided me through the editorial process, with special attention to the use of age-appropriate language. Master of the feedback sandwich, Kristina provided the perfect blend of encouragement, momentum and honest assessment of the areas that needed improvement.” — Tami Sussman
