As much as authors may try to resist it, it has become an expectation to be online and active on social media, where a significant volume of written work is shared and consumed. Female authors in particular must navigate these demands alongside an often toxic internet culture which can make these digital spaces unpleasant and even unsafe to participate in, and leaves them vulnerable to online harassment.
Jessie Tu is a novelist, critic, and journalist for Women’s Agenda, with a wealth of diverse professional experience working in digital media — and all that comes with it. In celebration of International Women’s Day, Jessie will share her observations on and experience of what it means to be online as a woman, and how you can navigate that space with care.
