Nominate an author or illustrator for the ASA Board

Each year the ASA calls for nominations from our membership for candidates interested in serving on the ASA Board for a three-year term. This year, there are four Director spots to fill on our Board.

We welcome all nominations, however, in order to ensure broad representation of our members and to enhance the skillset of our Directors, we would like to encourage nominations from candidates who fill at least one or more of the following criteria:

  • resides in Queensland, Tasmania, ACT, Western Australia or Northern Territory
  • identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • identifies as someone from a culturally, ethnically, or linguistically diverse background
  • has published non-fiction
  • has published genre fiction including crime, romance, historical, or speculative fiction
  • has published educational texts or is experienced in academic publishing
  • has advocacy, financial, governance, or communications expertise.

We warmly welcome nominations for candidates that reflect the diversity of contemporary Australia.

It is particularly important that all candidates are prepared to commit time and energy to the role of Director and share the purpose of the ASA: to support all Australian writers and illustrators. Directors are expected to attend at least four Board Meetings a year and to appropriately prepare for these meetings. All Directors of non-profits must also be aware of the duties under the ACNC governance standards.

Directors are paid the nominal fee of $1,000 per year. Any travel or accommodation expenses are reimbursed.

All candidates and nominators must be Full Members of the ASA, and candidates will be asked to fill in a questionnaire in order to give all members sufficient information on which to base their vote. Candidates must be nominated by another ASA member – it is not permitted to self-nominate.

Nominations open today and close at 5pm AEST on Wednesday 2 October 2024.

If we receive more nominations than positions available, an election will be conducted and we will send all members information on how to vote in a ballot. Elected Directors will then be announced at our Annual General Meeting, taking place on 11 November 2024.

We look forward to hearing from you!
