A free information session from IPEd

Kerry Davies and Rhonda Daniels from the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) will present a FREE information session on what you can expect when working with a freelance editor on a project.
This session will introduce the basic professional and ethical principles recommended by IPEd, ensuring you know how to approach your project with a clear understanding of what is required from both parties and what you can do to build a strong working relationship with your editor from the start.

Kerry and Rhonda will share several scenarios authors and freelance editors may find themselves in when working on a project and talk us through the best practice for resolving conflict and collaborating successfully.

No problem! Everyone booked in to this event will be emailed a link and passcode to access the recording afterwards. This recording will be available to view for 10 days after the live session. About the Presenters

Kerry Davies AE has been a professional editor for more than 45 years, much of it freelance, for publishing companies in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, as well as educational institutions, government departments, non-profits, and independent authors and postgraduate research students. Among her in-house positions she worked as manager of Indigenous publisher Magabala Books (1990–95) and Senior Editor for Focus Publishing in Sydney (2002–04) before returning to Brisbane to rekindle her freelance business, Kerry Davies Publishing Services. 

She became an Accredited Editor (AE) in 2011 and is an Honorary Life Member (Professional) of IPEd through Editors Queensland. She served on the Board of the Institute of Professional Editors from 2013 to 2020, as its chair from 2015 to 2020, and as president of Editors Queensland from 2010 to 2016, and still volunteers for the IPEd Queensland Branch and the Pay and Conditions Standing Committee. She is the 2023 recipient of IPEd’s Janet Mackenzie Medal for outstanding service to the editing profession. Kerry is also a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP, UK).

Dr Rhonda Daniels AE is a self-employed editor, with over 10 years experience in her business Right with Rhonda focusing on academic and research material in the social sciences. She receives and responds to many inquiries, working successfully with many clients. Rhonda is a member of IPEd’s Standing Committee on Pay and Conditions and the Standing Committee on Academic Editing. In these roles, she has developed useful resources for editors and clients on the IPEd website.
